A Thimble Camera has been designed and developed consisting of a video camera and a light source in a sterilizable housing. The Camera can be provided with a disposable protective sheath. The entire device can be fingertip-mounted allowing normal accessibility by hand or finger. If you can touch it with your finger, the device can be placed there. This form of advanced micro-technology configuration is based on the innate and natural coordination of eye-hand-finger. A group of integral accessories such as insufflation, suction, electrocautery electrode, biopsy forceps, surgical laser, extension ro d (both rigid and flexible), magnetic pickup, air-pressure nozzle and others can be added to allow the user to optimize performing the operations with a single finger.
Medical applications are for situations where an endoscope is impractical. There are also situations where a surgeon requires seeing inside a small incision such as in plastic surgery or for viewing behind anatomical structures in the chest, stomach, or pelvis without dissecting any more than the minimum necessary. The Camera allows for viewing in to small incision surgery.
