A Reflective Laser Endoscope focusing guide system has been designed and developed with a disposable unit connected to the end of an Fiber Optic link. The Endoscope is made up of an Endoscope tube with the front end containing a mirror lens for directing a laser light beam from the Endoscope to the operation location. The mirror lens bends the laser light beam in the lateral direction onto the tissue to be treated. During laser angioplasty, the Endoscope has a direct attachment to the Fiber Optic link. This Fiber Optic link provides the flexibility required for narrow and curved vessels while still providing a firm attachment of the mirror lens to the endoscopic tube.
The Endoscope system is made up of a beam splitting module for optical connection to a laser light beam source. The laser light source supplies a low power aiming light beam and a high power surgical light beam to the splitting module. A two-mirror focusing assembly is optically connected to the splitting module. The Endoscope tube guides the focused laser light beams to the target specimen. The Endoscope has a technique for verifying alignment by observing the positions of two projected visible spots. These two spots are not coincident if there is any misalignment. The Endoscope configuration eliminates central obscuration and misalignment of the laser light beams. This ensures that the surgical laser light beam will impinge precisely on the spot indicated by the aiming laser light beam.
