Interferometer, Laser Unequal Path (LUPI)
Saturday, September 09, 2006
A LUPI (Laser Unequal Path Interferometer) has been designed and developed using a set of null lenses and can qualify aspheric surfaces. It is a portable Interferometer capable of testing in any orientation, and testing under various environmental conditions. Two major advantages of the LUPI are; 1) the capability of testing spherical concave surfaces without physical contact, and 2) the ability to use small reference surfaces of large optical components or large optical systems.
The LUPI can be used to test any optical component or optical system that produces a spherical wavefront. The LUPI can be used to test aspherics by combining the light beam diverging feature with a null lens. The null lens is designed to introduce desired amounts of spherical aberration into the diverging wavefront.
